What is Intrastat?

Intrastat is the EU-wide statistical survey system for trade in goods between Member States of the European Union. Since customs borders within the EU single market were abolished in 1993, there are no longer automatic customs declarations for intra-Community movements of goods – Intrastat fills this statistical gap.

The data collected is used to compile the EU's foreign trade statistics. It feeds into national accounts, balance-of-payments statistics, and economic policy decisions at both national and European level. The national statistical authority in the reporting country is the responsible receiving authority.

Monthly reporting

Reports are filed monthly for all movements of goods in the relevant calendar month. Each line item is reported with its CN code, quantity, value, and country of origin.

Who is affected?

Businesses whose intra-Community trade value exceeds the annual reporting threshold applicable in their reporting country are required to report.
